Up 9:30 - slow start.
Breakfast, coffee.
Listened to an podcast interview w/ Pete Galub. Proofed and sent PopCon proposal.
Read 30 p. Low.
Spent afternoon on to-do list; cleared a lot of email, wrote to a publicist, called the bank, etc. Arranged to meet Pete at Chris Brokaw Thursday.
Started watching/listening the rec’d stream of Pierre Gallande’s George Brassen’s concert at Barbes, which I’ve had on deck for a few weeks.
Made some zucchini and Brussel sprouts. Got laundry together for tomorrow.
Read a bit more of Low. Realized that an unnamed poet whose kinks she discusses is someone I know; I suspected, but then there was an unmistakable detail (a reference to a minor literary work we’ve discussed).
Worked at E77 7-9:30 pm. Realized just before I left that I’d misspelled a name in the PopCon proposal (one I know exactly who on the committee will recognize and tick against me), so I fixed it and resent; RJ replied that he got it.Watched one episode of Prime Suspect. Helen Mirren is drinking more.
Finished Low; read 1st poem/section of Lisa Robertson, 3 Summers. Lights out 1 am.
11.29.21
Up 7:30. No weight loss next week; just treading water since Thanksgiving.
Breakfast, coffee.
Therapy w/ Bree.
Worked 2 hrs. on Guthrie proposal at E77; listened to more of Nashville Soul while walking.
Called dad.
Cooked some salmon and vegetables.
Therapy.
Spent another hr. or so finishing the proposal, editing it to the 300 word limit; added a bio (75). Will proofread and send tomorrow.
Watched Prime Suspect most of the evening. Didn’t feel like reading.
11.28.21
Nothing worth reporting during the day. Bunted on writing.
Later, finished reading Callard, On Anger; 50 p. Low; “Bum Blockade” article; 1 essay on transference.
Listened to part of a comp. called Nashville Soul.
11.27.21
Up 8. Breakfast, coffee. Emptied dishwasher. Read Low for a while. Underwhelmed.
Looked through several books of early TPA songs (1890s-1910s) for verses that end with lines on the order of “and this is what he said/sang,” of which there are many (including “Under the Bamboo Tree”). Located a paper about the 1936-7 “bum blockade” at the CA border for my “Do Re Mi”/“Hang Out the Front Door Key” paper; have to submit the proposal by Dec. 1.
Dithered for a while, finally went out, had lunch, and worked about 4-6.
Mopped floor, did a few other misc. to-do list tasks in evening, watched an episode of Prime Suspect.
Lights out midnight.
11.26.21
Up 7:30. Breakfast.
Read more responses to Callard, an earlier piece by Martha Nussbaum she’s responding to, and a related interview w/ Judith Bulter.
Worked at E77 over coffee about 10-noon. Petered out, talked to Ken Lauterbach for a while.
Came home by 2, called my dad. Bree called as we were finishing up, called her back briefly (it’s her bedtime in France).
Napped. Learned of Stephen Sondheim’s death at 91 (my dad’s age). Hard to discuss what he represents and why he’s meaningful to me.
Bree’s physical therapist dropped by w/ a dish of pernil and sides from his Puerto Rican gf’s Thanksgiving (long story). Really nice, totally supererogatory. Also perfectly timed for dinner - there’s not much in the house.
Thought about going out again, but didn’t. Started reading Trisha Low, Socialist Realism. Watched a Midsomer Murders (I guess it’s one ‘m’); lights out midnight.
